Welcome to The Children's Farm
Hello and Welcome!
We are Ronda and Alan, a husband and wife team who recently took over the operation of the Children’s Farm from daughter Emily. She did a fine job creating a wonderful environment for children, and we plan to make it even more wondrous for the children! We’re both life-long educators with lots of credentials and experience behind us, and what really makes us excited about running this little preschool is that we are free to use all our creative juices to create a model of the best enculturation program we can imagine. We are both very concerned about the impact of what we call “human unfriendly enculturation systems” which are inherent in modern schools, are having on today’s children. The very fact that children spend most of their waking hours socializing with same-age classmates with little or no interactions with younger and older kids or adults, breaks down any chance of bonds being created across the age and generational spectrums. We feel this hasn’t been good for our society, and is certainly not good for the we-being and happiness of our children.
We decided to design and operate a program on a “human friendly” basis. That's what the mixed-age components are all about. You can read more about the concept in "About Us" under the "Philosophy" description, and in the "Programs" section within each of the program's descriptions. Its still in the creative stage, but so far it is going great. The Children's Farm kids seem very happy and fully engage themselves in the rich variety of activities and social encounters that this environment has to offer. The parents seem pleased with what is going on with their kids, and the community of adults appears connected with and supportive of one another around their parenting roles. We feel blessed with an exceptionally enlightened group of parents who are very committed to seeking out enculturational alternatives which will allow their children to thrive far beyond the limitations imposed by mainstream practices and expectations.
Please, come in, browse around our site and check us out. The Children's Farm is a continual work in process.
Warmest Regards,
Ronda and Alan
