DRAFT 9/1/10

At the Children’s Farm Preschool Program young children will continue their process of enculturation in an environment akin to the most natural of human social settings: the village.  The mixed-age cross-generational social format at the Children Farm mimics the social community that prevailed throughout the history of human evolution.  It is within this social context our forbearers developed all the intellectual, physical and emotional aspects that make us the modern human beings we are today.  Children are hardwired to acquire all the learning necessary to be fully functioning human beings by simply participating in the everyday interactions within this natural social habitat. The Children’s Farm "village" includes the babies' families; our staff of early childhood educators dedicated to the safety, well being and healthy development of  young children; adolescents attending their needs; and school-age* children serving as their role models; and the Children's Farm community of parents.  Thus young children in the Children's Farm program grow into their social world establishing deep connections with a stable and healthy mixed-age/cross-generational community whose members show deep interest in their well being, development and accomplishments.  Their parents get routine breaks from their unnatural roles as "constant caretakers" (in a culture that lacks extended family and community support for child raising), allowing them to be more fulfilled personally and as a couple. Finally, the young children's' inclusion in the Children's Farm community gives great benefit to the whole spectrum of our mixed age participants.
