About Our School
The Children's Center
Our facility is specifically designed for young children. The spacious light-filled room features, cozy lofts, child-sized sinks for water play, multiple art and project tables and an abundance of developmentally appropriate resources for construction projects, dramatic play, arts, music, and all manner of creative self expression. There are an abundance of books, puzzles and games and quiet spaces to enjoy them.
The Yard and Land
The large fenced yard is an extension of the house and features climbing structures, a huge sand-play area, a lush children's garden, water play and plenty of room for romping. We have an abundance of scaffolding, ladders, beams and boards to build elaborate play structures and obstacle courses. We use real carpentry tools in the supervised woodworking areas, and children are free to utilize a variety of art mediums.
Using the 24 acres of land as a medium for teaching is central to the structure of school. The children are exposed to nature every day and in every type of weather. Whether they are gathering fruit and vegetables, catching tadpoles, or hiking to the ancient oaks, the children's natural curiosity leads to the wonder of exploration and investigation of our world.
"Children are remarkably competent human beings. If given the chance, little people can also paddle canoes, discover intricate spider webs, wash camp dishes and create sensitive poems and pictures. Children can be strong partners-even leaders-in the outdoors." - Teaching Kids to Love the Earth
